All About Epifluorescence Microscope

New to Microscopy Research and Imagery? These are just a few basic ways on how to use a Fluorescence Microscope.

Introduction
Most microscopes use the process of illumination and reflection to be able to view the sample that they have chosen while a Fluorescence Microscope, though still has the same features of any microscope, uses the process of fluorescence and phosphoresce to be able to view the specimen under its lens.

Fluorescence microscopes uses the process of studying the light source itself. It uses the technique of  emission of radiation from a visible light source. This idea came from the theory that certain cell structure emits energy when light is focused on it, in short, the molecules become excited because of the light. The fluorescence microscope also finds out its strongest point. At the same time sorting out the weaker points of it with the gradual decrease of the light used. This microscope has a filter that only lets the radiation seep through at a certain amount that can match with the sample that is being used. When the radiation reaches the sample, you gradually decrease the energy of the radiation then thats when the chosen sample emits the light that is desired.

Various ways of Using a Fluorescence Microscope
A Fluorescence Microscope has been an important part in the field of medical research especially in the  area of biology for the past few years. And since most microscopes are depended upon to capture images of specimens for acquiring information and knowledge, a Fluorescence Microscope is a good tool for furthering your studies on the particular subject.

The uses of a Fluorescence Microscope does not generally differ from the main uses of any ordinary microscope but we have to remember that in Fluorescence Microscope, it is a expanding technology because of its specific techniques used in research and study. The images that we discover is solely based on fluorescence emission that makes us able to pinpoint the strongest and weakest point of a cell structure. Example  are in certain cells of antibodies and cell diseases, their growth structure can be identified specifically with a Fluorescence Microscope.

The following are just a few basic ways in using a Fluorescence Microscope:

1. Since a Fluorescence Microscope has the ability to detect faintly visible microorganisms, you can optimize the image by manipulating the background and its magnification to the proper level of viewing. A basic Fluorescence Microscope has a 10x -40x illumination magnification that is also perfect to be used with the bright field illumination as well as the dark field illumination. In the bright field mode, the light source directly falls on the specimen while in the dark field mode, the light source falls around the specimen obliquely.

2. With a Fluorescence Microscope, you can also use the process of  Confocal Microscopy. It is a process wherein you can control the depth of field, preventing image degrading as well as enables you to collect images of serial optical sections from your specimens. Since Confocal Microscopy helps us capture near perfect quality images, it has also become extremely popular, not only to scientists but to anyone who is interested in scientific learning as well because of the instances some images come out as colorful and very unique.

3. Besides using Confocal Microscopy with a Fluorescence Microscope, you can also use the process of  Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy. It is the process of observing a single molecule when it is put in different surfaces. When you are curious in finding out how molecules react with certain surfaces, the Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy or TIRFM procedure is a good way to use in finding out.

4. Like any basic Microscopes these days, a Fluorescence Microscope can also capture images and video clips but with this particular microscope you rely heavily on the fluorescence being emitted for near perfect quality imaging mode. A lot of biologist rely on this feature to further their studies of certain microorganisms.

The different ways mentioned above is just a few of the basic ways in using a Fluorescence Microscope. Like any kind of microscope,  a Fluorescence Microscope is important to be taken care of because of its highly sensitive features. Remember, Fluorescence Microscopes uses light energy to be absorbed by the atom so it will become ‘excited’ and because of this, the electron reaches a higher  energy level. This enables you to study on how different microorganisms react with each other.
